RP Starter Prompts And 7 Amazing Themes You Can Play Around With

Need some RP inspiration? We’ve got you covered. Check out our RP starter prompts and responses below!

What are RP starter prompts?

Roleplay (RP) starter prompts are the opening lines of a roleplay, an interaction between characters.

The starter is the first post. It serves to set the scene. Typically, the starter is longer than the later parts of the post.

Your roleplay starter should always be interesting and concise.

The best starters are simple but offer abundant opportunities to progress. What is the environment like? The weather? The temperature? What can the character see, taste, or smell?

The starter is an opportunity to set the mood for the rest of the thread. Where are the characters, and how does that influence the opening line or starter?

Establishing a scene, setting, mood, tone, or theme helps your RP partner continue the theme.

Taking on the responsibility of starting a roleplay can be daunting; you want to start on a good foot, strong and offer a generous opportunity for your RP partner to bounce from your opening.

Below, we’ve offered up some RP starter prompts and sentence prompts to follow. Use any of these ideas for your net thread and if you get stuck, return to this article for inspiration!

1. Superhero starters

A secret villain masquerades as a superhero diplomat and gathers all the world’s superheroes to a meeting in his underground resort/lair.

‘Now that you’ve all calmed down, I’d like to explain my devious plan.’

‘Wait a second, is every single superhero alive today here in this room?’

‘There’s something suspicious about all of this.’

‘What does that big red button do?’

‘Has anyone seen Iron Man?’

‘So what’s up with those sharks in that tank?’

A to B: ‘This guy looks really familiar, but I can’t remember where I know him from.’

Host: ‘Some of you don’t know me. Some of you may remember me as the guy who murdered all those children. Some of you will remember me as your kid’s school teacher. Either way, nice to meet you all. We’re going to have a lot of fun this weekend.’

2. Sibling rivalry RP starters

Two siblings can’t help but annoy each other. It’s almost like a game. Despite their parent’s attempts to keep harmony in the household, the siblings just can’t seem to stop provoking each other.

‘Get out of my room!’

‘I’m not in your room!’ [stands in the doorframe]

‘Your life is easy because your Mom’s favorite.’

‘As if! You’re clearly Mom’s favorite!’

‘Can I have my shirt back?

‘What shirt?’

‘The one you stole.’

‘I didn’t steal your shirt!’

‘We’re not friends.’

‘But we’re siblings

‘That’s what I said.’

‘You suck.’

‘You suck.’

‘Stop copying me.’

‘Stop copying me.’

‘Please don’t tell Mom.’

‘I’m going to tell Mom.’

‘Please don’t..’

‘I think this app is perfect for you. It teaches you how to not be an a**hole.’

‘Hey, do you want to invite some friends over for dinner? Oh wait, I forgot you don’t have any.’

3. Flirty RP prompts

Our characters meet at a bar. They eye each other for some time before one finally approaches the other.

‘I’ve never seen you here before. Do you come here often?’

‘Can I buy you a drink?’

‘I’m a little bit shy but I just want to say that you’re really pretty.’

‘Who have you come here with?’

‘I don’t normally approach girls in bars, but this time I couldn’t help myself.’

‘If I told you I’m bad at flirting would you help me out a little?’

‘We’re wearing matching colors! Do you think that’s a sign?’

4. Enemies to lovers prompts

Our muses are sworn enemies. For years they’ve hated each other, always seeming to get in each other’s way, just like all things in life. Their relationship begins to change. One-time enemies gradually shift into lovers, leading to sexual tension, humor, and potential romantic love. Of course, the change is not without a doubt. How can enemies who once hated each other change so much?

‘I always knew I’d see you again

‘Sounds like you wanted to.’

‘You’re so annoying.’

‘Yes, but what would you do without me?’

‘Let’s give it a shot.’

‘But I hate you.’

‘Exactly, so how much worse can it get?’

‘I already feel like this is a bad idea.’

‘Are you open to a new experience?’

‘I never saw you this way before.’

‘Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?’

‘I still hate you, but now I love you too. What the hell is happening to me?’

‘Is this a spell? Have you put a love spell on me? I wouldn’t be surprised.’

5. Betrayal prompts

One of our characters has done something terrible. They once had the trust of another person or other people, but their true colors now show, and it’s clear that there has been a deep betrayal.

You knew what would happen if we got too close.’

I never expected you to change so much.’

What happened to you that I knew before?’

I know everything changes; I just didn’t want you to.’

I told you not to trust me.’

How can you do this to me?’

At least now I know.’

Feel free to never talk to me again.’

Am I crazy? Or are you a sociopath?’

How could you?’

I want to know why you did that, that’s all. ‘

You said you loved me!’

How can you treat your family like that?’

Was it you? Tell me the truth, please. ‘

You’re a liar and a cheat!’

I knew it was you all along; I just didn’t want to believe it.’

You’re a backstabber, and now there’s nothing you can do that will change my opinion of you.’

You really made a fool of me.’

Please, tell me it wasn’t you.’

You played me just like you play everyone else.’

Am I just a game to you?.’

I bet you thought I’d never find out.’

‘Jack, it’s been a while.’

‘What are you doing with that sword?’

Susan smiles

6. Relationship argument RP prompts

Our muses are a couple arguing. One has promised to the other to improve their behavior but failed to follow through. The roleplay follows their argument and signifies the potential end of the relationship.

‘I think we should take a break.’

‘I need some space.’

‘I can’t believe you’ve done it again!’

‘Where is the love and support you said you’d give me?’

‘Is this how you usually treat people you love?’

‘How could you?!’

‘I’m about to walk right out that door.’

‘I’m not sure what the point of this relationship is anymore.’

‘I thought you said you weren’t going to talk to her anymore.’

‘You two seem very close…’

‘Did you look through my phone?!’

‘I’m sick of this.’

‘I don’t know how I feel about you anymore.’

‘You’ve changed so much.’

‘I can’t take these lies anymore.’

‘I’m done.’

‘My patience is growing thin.’

‘You’re on thin ice!’

‘You’re making it really hard for me to love you.’

7. RP fluff dialogue starters

Fluff stories are known for light and happy themes. Here are some dialogue starters for your fluff RP:

Your eyes are so…

Hey, are you asleep?

I didn’t expect us to get so close.

You’ve got an eyelash on your face. Let me get it for you.

Ahhh, it’s you. Hello!

I love this, us.

I miss you. I can’t wait for the day I get to see you again. Lying next to you makes it easier to sleep.

I think you’re the one for me.

Let’s dance.

Say the word and I’m yours.

Why do I always feel so relaxed when you come around?

You’re safe here.

You make me feel like I’m safe

I want to show you something.

I wrote this about you.

You’re so talented.

Are you okay? I mean, really.

You can talk to me.

Wow, I just… I just love you so much.

What is this feeling?
